‘BJP has no right to criticise N-deal’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Union Minister for Urban Development S. Jaipal Reddy has lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party for ‘going against its own policies and principles and criticising the UPA for taking the Indo-US nuclear deal forward’.

‘Intense phase’

He was talking to reporters after addressing a meeting of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at its diamond jubilee celebrations here on Friday. Earlier, in his address to the CAs, he said Indian politics was passing through an ‘intense phase full of tense moments’.

Mr. Reddy said it was ironical that the BJP was criticising the UPA since it had initiated the deal with the US when it was at the helm. “We are only in the process of closing the deal,” he said and accused the BJP of trying to derive political mileage.

Mr. Reddy took a dig at the Left parties too, saying they needed to change their outlook in tune with the changing situations. The Union Minister said he was confident that the UPA government would emerge victorious in the trust vote in Parliament on July 22. Asked about allegations of horse-trading by the Congress, he quipped, “Who would ideally indulge in horse-trading? Only those who are unsure of their chances of passing the vote. When we are confident, why would we involve ourselves in such acts?” he asked.
