Move to increase salary of Rubber Corporation staff

First phase of talks completed, says Forest Minister N. Selvaraj


A positive decision will be taken after a consultation with Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi

Rubber plantation to be undertaken on 142 hectares


Nagercoil: Talks between the representatives of various trade unions and the Government in connection with salary hike for employees of Tamil Nadu Rubber Corporation in Kanyakumari district were completed in the first phase, said the Forest Minister, N. Selvaraj.

Speaking to the presspersons here on Friday, he said that as the Dravida Munnetra Kazgham Government was committed to ensuring the welfare of the employees of the corporation. A positive decision would be taken after having a consultation with the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi. Rubber plantation would be undertaken on 142 hectares in the catchment areas after cutting the old plants. A sum of Rs.10 crore had been allotted to plant various kind of saplings and to develop the forest coverage in the State. The scheme assisted by the Japan Government in connection with developing forest and other natural resources would be completed by the end of this year. A sum of Rs.688 crore had already been spent under this scheme in more than 1,367 villages. In the second phase Rs.567.42 crore had been spent for this purpose in 800 villages. The administration sent a proposal for the implementation of Ulakkai Aruvi drinking water scheme. After getting permission from the Central Government, the forest land would be handed over to the district administration for the implementation of the project, said the Minister.

The Collector, B. Jothi Nirmala, the District Forest Officer, Sundararaju, and other officials attended the review meeting.
