HYDERABAD: Four days ahead of the crucial confidence vote to be faced by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by Manmohan Singh in the Lok Sabha, top political leaders from Andhra Pradesh are making a beeline to the national capital.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K. On the direction of the AICC president that all the Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States be present in Delhi, Dr. Reddy will leave on July 20. He is expected to host a dinner for Congress MPs from the State either on Sunday or on Monday while AICC general secretary M. Veerappa Moily is hosting one on Saturday.

Breaking his 150-day-long “Mee Kosam yatra”, Mr. Naidu too is leaving for New Delhi on Saturday morning and staying there till July 20, to do his bit in wooing smaller parties to vote against the UPA government.

Mr. Naidu, who is the convenor of the United National Progressive Alliance, is expected to attend a meeting of the grouping and take stock of the situation after the Samajwadi Party having crossed over to the UPA government’s side.

He is likely to meet Left party leaders Prakash Karat and A. B. Bardhan and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mayawati, to firm up a joint strategy for the floor test and floor coordination in the Lok Sabha.

TRS chief too leaves

Talking to reporters before leaving for New Delhi, Mr. Rao said he would also mediate in a meeting between Ajit Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal and Ms. Mayawati.

He would try to fix up their meeting in a day or two.
