Lifer for two for killing cousin

Rourkela: A local court on Friday sentenced two brothers of Sundergarh district to life imprisonment for killing their cousin on a property dispute.

District and session judge Bhagirathi Pradhan convicted Gopal Lachhar and Nakul Lachhar of Raspatra village of Sundergarh district for killing Kiran Prakash Gadtia, who was the only son of their uncle, at village Dumkuda in 2005.

The Lachhar brothers killed Kiran, 18-year-old son of Subhadra Godtia, to acquire the property of Gadtia family, according to the prosecution.

The judge had acquitted four others due to lack of evidence against them.

On April 24, 2005, the Lachhar brothers asked Kiran to accompany them to watch a jatra in another village and had allegedly killed him with a sharp weapon on their way to the place. Later police had found the body in a drain on the next day and arrested the brothers. - PTI
