VIRUDHUNAGAR: Collector V. Chandrasekaran has directed officials of all departments concerned to take precautionary measures to prevent flood during southwest monsoon.
Chairing a meeting to this effect here on Thursday, he said that officials from all parts of the district should alert the district administration about floods immediately. Details such as quantum of rainfall, water level in dams and loss of properties due to flood and lightning should be passed on to the district administration. Besides, officials should take steps for providing relief to the affected people.
At times of flood, affected people should be evacuated to shelters in schools or community halls and provided food.
The vents and bunds of tanks should be repaired in advance. Electricity department officials had been instructed to snap power supply during heavy rain. The Fire and Rescue Service personnel should keep their gear ready.
