HMWSSB top official held on graft charge

Accused of owning property worth over Rs. 73 lakh
Friend’s house raided, assets worth Rs. 60 lakh found

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Friday arrested B. Vasudeva Naidu, General Manager (Finance) of Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on charge of amassing wealth illegally.

Action was also being initiated against Naidu’s colleague and friend D. Krishna Reddy, Manager of Madhapur division, on similar charge, according to an ACB press release.

Searches conducted at Mr. Naidu’s house at Kukatpally and those of his friends in the city as well as Visaskhapatnam revealed that the official allegedly acquired properties worth over Rs. 73 lakh that were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Unearthed assets

The properties included a building at Kukatpally comprising five flats and a duplex apartment, three plots, an agricultural land at Srikakulam and three flats in Visakhapatnam.

A cash amount of Rs. 1.5 lakh, bank balances to the tune of the Rs. 36,000, gold jewellery weighing 400 gms, household articles worth Rs. 1 lakh and documents confirming investments in insurance policies worth Rs. 2.70 lakh were among the other unearthed assets.

Raid on other houses

Continuing their searches, the Anti-Corruption authorities raided the house of Naidu’s friend, Mr. Krishna Reddy at K.P.H.B. colony and found that the latter too had acquired assets worth Rs. 60 lakh illegally.

The properties owned by him included a house at Kukatpally, an acre of land in Bachupally on the outskirts of the city, investments in a construction business and a Maruth Swift car.
