On a special mission

Staff Correspondent

Belgaum: Two young physically challenged swimmers from Belgaum, Raghavendra Anvekar, and Rajesh Shinde, who left for London to accomplish their “Mission English Channel” task, were accorded a warm “send off” at the Belgaum Railway Station here on Saturday.

Raghavendra and Rajesh, aged 21, are members of the city-based Swimmers’ Club and Aquarius Swim Club. They are scheduled to swim across the English Channel between England and France any day between July 25 and 31.

Various social organisations, philanthropic institutions, well-wishers, relatives and friends, all mobilised by Rotary Corporation Sports Academy, Belgaum, are their sponsors.

A large number of people gathered at the railway station and extended their greetings and wishes to the young swimmers, who along with coach Prasad Tendulkar, mission coordinator Umesh Kalghatagi, will take off from Bangalore on July 22.
