Priest gets life for assaulting devotee

Meerut: A fast track court has held a priest guilty of criminally assaulting a minor devotee and awarded him life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 4,000. Vijaya Kumar, who was a priest at a city temple, assaulted a girl who went there to pray for cure of her father’s illness. Kumar got her to see him alone on the pretext of a cure and assaulted her repeatedly over a five-six-month period. A complaint was lodged at Delhi Gate police station on May 5 last year. Additional District and Sessions Judge Vinay Khare passed the judgement on Friday, sources said.
