He has been teaching Hindi at the college for the past ten years NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has issued notices to Delhi University, Sham Lal College and the Chairman of the Governing Body of the College on a petition by an ad hoc Hindi teacher challenging discontinuation of his service and appointment of six fresh lecturers on a permanent basis in the Hindi Department. Issuing the notices, Justice S.N. Aggarwal asked the respondents to file their replies by August 12. The petitioner, Prem Prakash Sharma, submitted that he had been teaching Hindi at the college for the past ten years on an ad hoc basis but the Governing Body discontinued his services last month. He submitted that the Governing Body had appointed as many as six lecturers in the department on a permanent basis. He alleged that the discontinuation of his service was against the appointment rules and violated his fundamental rights. He said his service and academic records had been excellent as Hindi literature books written by him had been included in the under-graduate curriculum. He was a Ph.D. holder while the fresh appointees did not have the mandatory qualification for being appointed a lecturer, he contended.
