PUDUCHERRY: Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam A. Anbalagan on Saturday urged the government to take over all seven medical colleges in the private sector if they failed to earmark 50 per cent of the seats to the government quota. He told reporters here that there was absolutely no need for holding talks with the managements of the private medical colleges, as they had to fulfil the government’s order based on the resolution adopted in the Assembly to allot 50 per cent of the medical seats. Though the private medical colleges had given 311 seats of a total of 950 last year, the government was still bargaining with the managements to earmark adequate number of seats for admissions through the Centralised Admission Committee, he said, adding that the managements of three deemed universities had not sent their representatives to the meeting called for by the government. If the managements of the private colleges and deemed universities did not come forward to earmark 50 per cent of their seats as promised by them while receiving the no-objection-certificate from the administration, the government should not hesitate to take over the institutions immediately and bring them under a common management, Mr. Anbalagan said.
