KOLLAM: Two Youth Congress activists were allegedly attacked by a group of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists here on Saturday. Youth Congress Eravipuram mandal president Sanover Basheer and secretary Hussein were admitted to District Hospital. Youth Congress leaders said that the attack was unprovoked. The two had gone to the district jail to visit the 14 Youth Congress leaders who were jailed earlier this week in connection with violence that erupted during a march demanding withdrawal of the Class V11 textbook. They were attacked while waiting at the bus stop by the jail to catch a bus. DYFI activists had assembled near the Boys High School here to give protection to a cluster meeting, following earlier attacks by Youth Congress workers on such venues. But on Saturday, none turned up. The DYFI men then organised a march. They noticed the two activists at the bus stop and attacked them, the Youth Congress leaders said. The police have registered a case.
