‘No permission given for mining in Gadag district’ Janasampark Sabha held at Laxmeshwar GADAG: Deputy Commissioner of Gadag R. Sriraman has said that the district administration had started acquisition of 50 acres of land for construction of Ashraya houses in Laxmeshwar Town Municipal Council limits. Presiding over the Janasampark Sabha held at Laxmeshwar in the district on Friday, he said that after acquisition of land a detailed proposal on construction of houses would be submitted to Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation (RGRHC). Ration cardsOn the issue of ration cards, Mr. Sriraman said that 311 applications submitted during the meeting and those submitted before October 2006 would be disposed of within a month. As many as 1,322 applications submitted prior to the meeting were disposed of on Friday, he said. A total of 800 applications pertaining to Ashraya houses, ration cards, pension, crop insurance and other problems were submitted during the meeting. Gadag Assistant Commissioner G.L. Praveenkumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohandas and Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Sujata Hosmani were among the officials who informed the meeting about various remedial measures taken to solve peoples’ problems. DirectedLater, speaking to presspersons Mr. Sriraman said that he had directed the officials to immediately dispose of the applications pertaining to social security scheme. He said that the authorities had received 7,841 applications pertaining to Sandhya Suraksha scheme, and 712 senior citizens had been sanctioned pension. Officials had been asked to dispose of the remaining applications immediately, he added. The Deputy Commissioner said that compensation of Rs. 61 lakh had been distributed to farmers of Shirahatti taluk where standing crops were destroyed in flash floods last year. CasesTo a query, he said that 17 cases had been registered with regard to illegal mining in Kappatagudda area. A team comprising of officials of the departments of mines and geology and police, led by Assistant Commissioner, had been constituted to look into the issue and take action against those involved in illegal mining, he said. Mr. Sriraman clarified that no permission had been given for mining in Gadag district.
