‘UPA Government looking forward to people’s support’ Belgaum: Belgaum city unit of Mahila Congress Committee on Saturday staged a demonstration at Rani Chennamma Circle here in support of the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal. The demonstration, supported by workers of Seva Dal and members of the National Students’ Union of India and SC/ST Cell of the District Congress Committee, was organised to appeal to people to support the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre. They said that the nuclear deal was in the country’s interest as it could end India’s nuclear isolation and provide the much needed energy source. The country was already hit by steep increase in fuel prices owing to rising crude oil price in international market. The nuclear deal would help India in tapping the potential of an important energy source, they said. Although political parties were divided on the issue, majority of MPs were in favour of the UPA Government, the Congress workers said. The Congress and the Union Government was looking forward to people’s support to make India self-reliant on energy, they added.
