THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party M.T. Ramesh has described as unfortunate the death of a teacher in Malappuram in the protest against teachers’ cluster meetings. In a statement here on Saturday, he said the Home Department was guilty of criminal negligence for not providing adequate protection to the teachers though it was aware of the situation. Those who conducted the agitation and the Left organisations who were out to defend it took the law into their hands, the statement said. ‘Conflict centres’
The conversion of schools into centres of conflict cannot be justified. He demanded a free and fair probe into the incident and action against those found guilty. Deplorable: BJYMState president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha K. Surendran too has deplored the development. As protests and violence had taken place at the venues of cluster meetings in the past also, the police should have provided protection to the teachers. The failure to provide adequate police protection for such meetings was the Home Department’s lapse. Mr. Surendran said that both the ruling parties and the Opposition were equally responsible for the teacher’s death in Malappuram.
