Making a mark: Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram presenting 17 gold medals to Manish Aggarwal and releasing the book written by Anirudh and Harini (right) during the convention of Nalsar University of Law in Hyderabad on Saturday. HYDERABAD: Students strive to excel in performance for securing gold medal in their area of specialisation. But securing over a dozen gold medals for topping the list in various disciplines, particularly when the subjects pertain to legal studies, is by no means an easy task. Sets a recordSetting a record sorts, Manish Agarwal of the Nalsar Law University received 17 gold medals during the sixth convocation of the University at the hands of Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. And, the disciplines in which he emerged as the topper ranged from Family Law – I and 11, Law of Evidence, Intellectual Property Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Constitutional Law – I and Environmental Law to name a few. Mr. Manish Agarwal has been declared as the best all-round student of final year, best all-round male student and best student for overall performance. If Mr. Manish has medals to his credit, two other students – Anirudh Krishnan and Harini Sudershan – created a mark for themselves when Mr. Chidambaram released a book authored by them. Despite the paucity of time and the hurry to complete syllabus, the two wrote the book dealing with the complex subject ‘Law of Reservation and Anti Discrimination - with special emphasis on education and employment’. With the idea of converting his extensive research on reservation into a legal commentary, Mr. Anirudh found an ideal co-author in Ms. Harini for achieving his goal. The well-researched work on all the constitutional provisions and interesting collection of articles would be useful tool for legal practitioners as well as academicians. Nalsar Law University has conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) to P. Chandrasekhara Rao, formerly president of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, who has been elected as Judge of the Tribunal. The convocation was the last one for the present Vice-Chancellor Ranbir Singh who is moving away as the first Vice-Chancellor of National Law School at New Delhi. Veer Singh will take over as the new Vice-Chancellor.
