Seven hi-tech bus stations to be built under JNNURM

Government-certified driving school proposed

BANGALORE: Minister for Transport R. Ashok on Saturday said that Rs. 100 crore had been released under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for construction of seven hi-tech Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stations in Mysore city.

Tender process has been completed and work orders issued for starting the work on the new bus stations at Kuvempunagar, Ilavala, R.S. Naidunagar, the Chamundi Hills, Sathagahalli and two other places.

Construction of bus stations would be completed in 18 months, Mr. Ashok said after inspecting the work on Transport and Transit Management Centre coming up in Jayanagar.

Mr. Ashok said to ensure that bus drivers got better training and placements, he had planned to start a government-certified driving school in Bangalore.

The school would provide a long-term training and have syllabus for the course. All those who pass out of the driving school would be issued certificates and they would be recruited by KSRTC, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and other State road transport corporations.

Mr. Ashok said he would discuss the plan with officials and ensure that school becomes operational this financial year.

“The number of road accidents could be reduced in a big way if we have well-trained drivers,” he said.

The Minister announced that the KSRTC would soon establish two workshops on 3.50 acres of land in Ramanagaram.

Jayanagar MLA B.N. Vijay Kumar and senior officials of KSRTC and BMTC were present.
