New H.P. Governor sworn in

‘Welcome’: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal greeting new Governor Prabha Rau at her oath-taking ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Shimla on Saturday.

SHIMLA: The Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, Justice Jagdish Bhalla, administered the oath of office to new State Governor Prabha Rau at a short ceremony here on Saturday.

State Chief Secretary Asha Swaroop read out the warrant of appointment issued by the President appointing Ms. Rau the new Governor.

Ms. Rau, a senior Congress leader from Maharashtra, succeeds Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje, who completed his term on May 7. Ms. Rau, 73, was the Maharashtra PCC president for the past four years. She hails from Wardha district. An athlete during her student days, she had represented Nagpur University and the State in long jump, high jump, hurdles and discus throw. Chief Minister P. K. Dhumal and Leader of Opposition Vidya Stokes were also present.
