DEHRA DUN: Anil Rana, chairperson of the Meerut-based civil society organisation Janhit Foundation, passed away after a severe brain stroke on Friday. He was 47. He is survived by his wife and two sons. A popular social worker, Mr. Rana specialised in ensuring basic human rights to the people of Daurala and Jai Bheem Nagar near Meerut, promoting organic farming and rejuvenating long discarded water bodies like ponds in western Uttar Pradesh. He had recently received the prestigious One World Award for outstanding work in the field of organic agriculture. Heading mainly a team of youngsters, Mr. Rana worked with a missionary zeal to make Meerut the hub of organic farming. He motivated farmers in nearly a hundred villages to shun chemical fertilizers and pesticides and take up organic farming. These villagers are now producing good organic crops and earning better with lower inputs.
