BANGALORE: A midday meal scheme for aged slum-dwellers was launched by Titan Industries, here on Saturday.

“The specialty is that the meals made for slum dwellers will be exactly of the same quality as that prepared for Titan employees,” said Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director of Titan Industries.

The scheme was launched on the occasion of a seminar on “Journeying Towards Health and Security and Peace” organised by Ashvasan Foundation in association with Rotary Club of Bangalore.

Rotary vice-president Srinivas Murthy spoke on Rotary’s continuous partnership with Ashvasan Foundation.

Many spoke on issues concerning the aged.

Geriatrics

An introduction to geriatrics was made by Nagesh Kavi, Consultant, Department of Geriatrics, Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.

“Only one college in Chennai offers course in geriatrics and the number of doctors, including myself, can be counted on fingers,” he said. He urged the elderly to take good care of their health. Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Corps of Detectives) Malini Krishnamurthy said that lifestyle had constantly been changing and so was the rate of crime.

The elderly had become easy targets, she said.

Director-General of Police (CoD) Ajay Kumar Singh promised to have a full-day interaction with the elderly soon.

In a session on spiritual well-being, Ram Menon of the School of Ancient Wisdom, Devanahalli, said that all happenings and actions had a divine purpose.
