Budget anti-Dalit: DSS

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsh Samithi said that the State Budget was “anti Dalit” as it had not allocated 23 per cent of funds for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, samiti’s State convener Lakshminarayana Nagavara said that the Government had earmarked less funds for the community, compared to last year.

The Government had not conceded most of the samiti’s demands and had violated the promise made to the Central Planning Commission, Mr. Nagavara said.

Allocation

Last year, Rs. 1,192.27 crore of 17,782.56 crore had been allocated for the welfare of the Backward Classes, compared to the Rs. 1,546.08 crore of Rs. 25,952 crore allocated for them this year, he said.

Mr. Nagavara said that he would appeal to Ministers belonging to the Dalit community to ensure that 23 per cent funds were allocated for them.
