Undue support is being extended to star hotels, says association TUMKUR: The State Budget has neglected the hotel industry, State president of the Karnataka Pradesh Hotels and Restaurants Association C.V. Mahadevaiah has said. Mr. Mahadevaiah, who contested the Assembly elections from Gubbi on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket, told presspersons here on Saturday that the association had made several representations with regard to hardships faced by the hotel industry in the wake of rising prices. “But Mr. Yeddyurappa has failed to respond to our demands,” he said. “Priority has been accorded to attracting foreign tourists. Undue support is being extended to star hotels while the local hotel industry is being neglected,” he said, and added that small and medium vegetarian hotels were the worst affected. Tumkur District Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Sunil P. Jawali said that the Chief Minister had not kept his promise on sanctioning an Information Technology park in Tumkur district. Mr. Jawali took a dig at a proposal in the budget to irrigate 73,000 hectares of land. Anusuya Y.K.R., wife of the late Minister Y.K. Ramaiah, said that Mr. Yeddyurappa had done injustice to the State’s main silk zone that comprises Tumkur, Kunigal, Magadi, Maddur and Mysore. Mr. Yeddyurappa had forgotten the silk growers of Old Mysore region, she said. Ms. Anusuya sought subsidy on silk production in the State silk zone, especially areas surrounding Chowdankuppe in Tumkur district. T.R. Anjanappa, former president of the Federation of the Institutes of Chartered Accountants of India, said that the budget lacked any vision for the future. S. Prakash, advocate and tax consultant, said that Mr. Yeddyurappa was expected to announce sops for soap nut and tamarind, which were extensively grown in Tumkur district. Mr. Prakash criticised the budgetary proposal to sell government land to increase income.
