Staff Reporter

In studies without letting room for distraction

TIRUCHI: Students should remain focussed in studies without letting room for distraction and improve upon their innate strengths and talents, speakers at a function held in the city on Friday underscored.

Through Value Education and Yoga the students’ personality could be shaped well, they said while speaking at the inauguration of Special Family Counselling Centre for Adolescents, a project sanctioned to the Parents Trust, a non-governmental organisation in the city, by the Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi.

Inaugurating it, N.S. Palaniappan, Secretary, Department of Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme advised students to brace themselves up for cut throat competition. The Centre, a pilot project, would address the problems of adolescents in need of support, he said.

The Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi Rural, A. Kaliyamurthy, said that students should be constantly advised on what their priorities should be and the ways to develop their overall personality.

The First Additional District and Sessions Judge, Tiruchi, V. Ramamurthy, said that every student had an innate talent hidden inside which needed to be understood. The Chief Educational Officer, K. Swaminathan, underscored the need to teach values and yoga to students to enhance their personality. Poet Salma, Chairperson, Tamil Nadu State Social Welfare Board and T. Jayanthi Ranee, managing trustee, Parents Trust spoke on the occasion.
