Gale destroys plantain

PUDUKOTTAI: Plantain, mostly ‘poovan’ variety nearing harvest, on a total of 101 acres was destroyed by a gale at three villages in the district on Friday night.

The maximum damage was at Mathur village in Kulavaipatti panchayat where the cash-crop was totally uprooted on 49 acres. At Kalabam village in Karambakudi block, the crop on 47 acres was damaged. At Mookampatti village near Pudukottai, plantain raised on five acres was destroyed.
