MADURAI: A batch of five commandos of Tamil Nadu Railway Police has been inducted into the Madurai Railway Police.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, P. Manoharan, said that the commandos have undergone special training in automated weapons.
They were part of a 30-member force created by the Inspector General of Police, G.U.G. Sastry. One or two members of the commandos would accompany regular patrol teams in the trains and platforms and attend to the emergency security requirements of the passengers.
They would conduct surprise checks in trains and round up suspicious people moving on the railway premises.
The commandos have also been given training in bomb detection and disposal, the Inspector, M.S.M. Abdul Rahim, said.
Railway passengers in need of any police help could call the Tamil Nadu Railway Police control room over 9962-500-500.
