Eicher has signed an MoU with NIE and the Government of Gujarat It will familiarise students with the latest in automobile technology MYSORE: Eicher Motors, one of the giants in manufacturing of commercial vehicles in the country, is establishing its first training centre in South India at Mysore. The training centre will be established at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), a premier technical institution, in Mysore in the next two months. MoUThis was disclosed by A. Ramasubramanian, CEO, Eicher, at the company’s plant in Pitampura on Saturday. A press release issued by NIE said Eicher has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIE and the Government of Gujarat. One more such training centre will be established at Kubernagar in Ahmedabad in association with the Government of Gujarat. NIE was represented by its Director S.L. Ramachandra and Prof. G.L. Shekar, while Gujarat government was represented by S.A. Pandav, Regional Deputy Director of Department of Employment and Training and P.L. Raval, adviser, ITI, the release said. At a time when India has become an obvious destination for manufacturing in general and for automobile engineering in particular, there is a huge requirement of human skills. The release quoting Mr. Ramasubramanian said Eicher Motors, which is involved in the design, manufacturing, marketing and sales of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles and its spare parts, with a total turnover of Rs. 2,500 crore, as part of its corporate social responsibility programmes, intends to initiate job-oriented training and education programmes to equip students, faculty members, industry personnel and other learners with adequate and updated technological know-how in the area of automobile engineering to meet the growing demands of skilled manpower in India. First collegeA. Nandakumar, head of consumer service, said that NIE is the first engineering college in the country to get a full-fledge training centre of Eicher Motors, and it would be called “NIE-Eicher Knowledge Centre”. “The main objective of this collaboration is to familiarise young students in latest automobile technology and also practically demonstrate to them the most scientific way of repair, maintenance and overhaul of commercial vehicles, and modern manufacturing techniques,” he said. Mr. Nandakumar said that large-scale training of mechanics and drivers would also be taken up to deal with safe driving and fuel conservation. “We intend to develop these two centres to world-class standards,” he said in the release.
