Thomas to float farmers’ outfit

KOTTAYAM: Kerala Congress (J) leader and Lok Sabha MP P.C. Thomas has decided to float a farmers’ outfit of his own.

Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Mr. Thomas said the first meeting of like-minded farmers would be convened here on July 26.

According to Mr. Thomas, the new outfit would work to bring together farmers let down by the Union government in the loan waiver measures on account of technical reasons. As per the present stipulations, those who availed loans after March 31, 2007 would not come under this facility. Farmers having land up to five acres (2.024 ha) and who took long-term loans be brought under the net, he said.
