Indian Bank (Chennai) retains title

Dindigul: Indian Bank (Chennai) retained the TNEB Trophy defeating Integral Coach Factory (Chennai) by the odd goal in three in the sixth annual State-level invitation football tournament organised jointly by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (Dindigul) Circle and DDFA at the SDAT stadium here on Saturday.

ICF had the better of the exchanges in the first session and took the lead in the 28th minute through Jegan (Sr). In the second session Indian Bank looked a different lot and Ilamurugan found the equaliser in the 46th minute.

Indian Bank netted the winner in the 70th minute, when Manikandan scored off a corner kick taken by Parthiban.

Mr. V. Balachandran, Additional Director of Police (vigilance), gave away the prizes in the presence of R. Kathirvel, Secretary, TNEB, Chennai.

Solai Nadar HSS advances

MSP Solai Nadar HSS (Dindigul), American College HSS (Madurai) and SAV HSS (Tuticorin) entered the semifinal round robin league of the E.Rm.E. Rengasamy Memorial Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament at the Mahatma Montessori Residential MHSS ground, Alagarkoil near Madurai on Saturday.

The results (quarterfinals):

Basketball: SAV HSS (Tuticorin) 55 (S. Sadam Hussain 23) bt St. Britto HSS (Madurai) 39 (Andrew David Jegan 14); MSP Solai Nadar HSS (Dindigul) 59 (S. Riaz Ahmed 16) bt Govt. HSS (Aranthangi) 31.

American College HSS (Madurai) 55 (S. Karuppasamy Pandian 22) bt Perks HSS (Coimbatore) 42 (Dhanasekar 19).

Volleyball: Khajamian HSS (Tiruchi) bt SAV HSS (Tuticorin) 25-15, 25-9; PKDM HSS (Pollachi) bt Mahatma Montessori Residential MHSS (Alagarkoil) 25-12, 25-4.

Govt. HSS (Edamalaiyur) bt American College HSS (Madurai) 25-22, 25-16; Vel Udayar HSS (Thiruvarur) bt TVS HSS (Madurai) 25-15, 25-13.

Kannan scores three goals

Three goals by Kannan, a brace by Sunder and one by Bala helped St. Mary’s HSS thrash Koodakovil HSS 6-0 and enter the semifinals of the Kittu Memorial Trophy district-level inter-school football tournament at Madurai on Saturday.

Other results (quarterfinals): TVS HSS 3 (Ramachandran 2, Balasubramani 1) bt Sourashtra HSS 1 (Easwaran 1).

American College HSS 5 (Ayyavu 3, Srinivasan 1, Chengottayan 1) bt De Nobilee MHSS 0; Don Bosco HSS 4 (Paraman 2, Seenchamy 2) bt Pasumalai HSS 0.

Ramesh Flowers in final

Ramesh Flowers Cricket Club (Tuticorin) beat Gavaskar Cricket Club (Alwar Thirunagari) by nine runs and entered the final of the Kayal Trophy district-level Twenty20 cricket tournament at Kayalpatnam on Saturday.

The scores: Ramesh Flowers CC 138 in 19.5 overs (Subhas 30, Nathan 28, David Solomon three for 26) bt Gavaskar CC 129 for eight in 20 overs (Rajadurai 39, Prabakar 27, Maruthamuthu three for 28).
