MANGALORE: Seeded players led by Grand Masters Praveen Thipsay and Dibyendu Barua had it easy on the opening day of the second Mangalore all-India open chess tournament which got underway here on Saturday. While Thipsay sailed past Abhijit J. Kamath, Barua posted a win against M.K. Aaditt in the day’s only round. The Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade earlier inaugurated the tournament organised by South Kanara District Chess Association. Around 280 players from 20 states are participating in this event, including the two GMs. The results (Round I): Sukanya Chari lost to R.R. Laxman, Dibyendu Barua bt M.K. Aaditt, Abhijith J. Kamath lost to Praveen Thipsay, Himanshu Sharma bt S. Abinaya Sen, K. Adarsh lost to B.T. Murali Krishnan, G.B. Prakash bt Adit Suvarna, M.D. Adithya lost to N. Sanjay, K. Dinesh Sharma bt M. Aditya, K. Aditya Pai lost to B.S. Shivananda, T. Purushothaman bt H. Akash, R. Akshatha lost to C. Praveen Kumar, Sohan Phadke bt Amit Panchal, Anam Alpesh Laxmikant lost to Koshy Varghese, G.A. Stany bt Anchit Vyas, Anishcharith C. Bhandary lost to Ramnathan Balasubramaniam, Wajih Nassir bt Anitha D’Souza, Anuarag A. Shenoy lost to P. Praveen Prasad, Sekhar Chandra Sahu bt K.C.
