Decision on pricesMr. Sudhakaran said a decision on fair price for coir products and fair wages to coir workers would be taken at a meeting scheduled for Monday. The Minister said that if big manufacturers disagree on the issue, the government would implement the decision unilaterally. Mr. Sudhakaran said that both small and large-scale manufacturers should cooperate to hike the wages of workers. Depots acting as commission agents between big producers and cooperative societies would be shut down, he said. The Minister said the local self-government bodies had the responsibility to give information on the existence or opening of any such depots. Distress purchase would be resorted to if coir produced by the cooperative societies remained unsold. But, low quality stuff would not be accepted at any cost.
