KOCHI: Day one was chaotic for the traffic signal at Jos Junction. Traffic police officers at the junction was expecting it to be so, it seems. The traffic signal at Jos Junction was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham on Saturday. During peak hours, the traffic from the southern side of M.G. Road was seen held up to Dwarka Junction and Pallimukku. “That was because the free left to the Durbar Hall Road was not left open. It will take at least a week for the public to get used to the new system,” said Francis Shelby, Circle Inspector, City Traffic (West). “Street vendors on D.H. Road are also adding to the traffic hold-up. They have been asked to move,” he said. Also, the representatives of merchants have been alerted to change parking spaces on either side of D.H. Road between Jos Junction and Warriam Road, along Chinmayananda Road up to Girls High School and on either side of M.G. Road. The traffic police have decided to increase the police presence at Jos Junction till traffic flow is streamlined. With the commissioning of the traffic signal, vehicles coming from South Railway station and Chittoor Road can come to South Government High School Junction and reach Jos Junction through Swami Chinmayananda Road and go to either side of M.G. Road. Vehicles coming from Hotel Woodlands junction along M.G. Road can turn to Durbar Hall Road from Jos Junction and proceed towards west. Similarly, all vehicles except heavy ones coming from BTH side can reach Jos Junction and proceed to either side or to the South Railway Station. Vehicles coming from the southern side of M.G. Road can turn right at Jos Junction to go towards the railway station. Deputy City Police Commissioner T. Vikram, K.V.P.
