Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: P.K. Kunhalikutty, State general secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League, said on Saturday that the death of a headmaster in Malappuram district after being attacked during violence in protest against cluster meetings was unfortunate and the party would not hesitate to take action if any member was found responsible for the death. In Kottayam, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala called for an impartial inquiry into the death. At a hurriedly called press conference, he asked the LDF to desist from announcing the culprits without going in for a preliminary inquiry. “The problem lies in the DYFI taking up the responsibility of the police,” he alleged. In Kalpetta in Wayanad, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy said the government had handed over charge of law and order to the youth wings of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He said police duty in most parts of Malappuram district had been handed over to Democratic Youth Federation of India activists.
