He came to city to ‘extort’ Rs.10 lakh from a hotelier 12 cases, including 5 in city, registered against him HYDERABAD: The alleged extortionist Gouru Suresh’s desire to lead a lavish life forced him to commit a series of offences, police said on Saturday. This cost him his life with police killing him in an alleged encounter at former Air India cargo office at Begumpet late on Friday night. Suresh, 30, a native of Miryalguda in Nalgonda district, came to city allegedly to extort Rs.10 lakh from an hotelier but was shot dead by the police in the encounter. On Saturday, none of his relatives came forward to claim the body that was preserved at the Gandhi hospital mortuary. The family deserted him ever since he started committing extortions and kidnaps from 2000 after he suffered loss in business. After discontinuing MBA in 1999, he opened “Marks Study Circle” in Dilsukhnagar and later closed it.Police said Suresh extorted more than Rs.10 lakh from owners of various educational institutions between 2000 and 2003. He used to demand money by posing himself as “Nallamala Forest Division Committee Special Deputy Commander”. Twelve cases, including five in the city were registered against Suresh for kidnapping and extorting money from different persons, especially businessmen. Though police arrested him in eight cases, he managed to secure bail. Non-bailable warrants were also pending against him. He demanded money from a former MP and real-estate, textile and transport businessmen. In 2006, he kidnapped a real-estate trader, a resident of Banjara Hills, and demanded Rs.1 crore as ransom.
