Deal will make India powerful: C.N.R. Rao

Special Correspondent

THANJAVUR: The Indo-U.S. nuclear deal will make India equal to the most powerful nations in the world, C. N. R. Rao, honorary president and Linus Pauling Research Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, said on Saturday.

Asked for his views on the deal at the end of his convocation address at the Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy University here, Prof. Rao said India would catch up with powerful countries such as France, China and England.

At present, India could not buy anything (needed for generating nuclear energy) in any market. That was why, Indian nuclear reactors were running at 50 per cent of their capacity.
