Dhruv, Tunga shine

HYDERABAD: A good spell by medium-pacer Dhruv Parikh (six for 51) helped Gujarathi CC to record a 30-run win over Continental CC in the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship here on Saturday.

In another match, a century by Nikhlesh Tunga (149) fashioned Sai Sathya CC’s 41-run win over Amberpet.

A-Division (two-day) league: Gujarathi CC 190 (Nimeesh Reddy 59, Laxmi Reddy 69, G. Kiran Reddy four for 51) bt Continental 160 (K. Shiv Prasad 52, Dhruv Praikh six for 51); Sai Sathya 292 (Nikhlesh Tunga 149, Rohan Baba four for 69, Maneesh four for 41) bt Amberpet 251 (Rohan 81, Navjot 44); Galaxy 239 (Karunakar five for 53) bt PKCC 174 (Akbar 62, Vivek Krishna four for 32).

A- Division league (one-day): Cambridge 97 lost to Victoria 98 for four (Subrahmanyam 41 not out).

Inter-districts league (two-day): Karimnagar 158 (Praveen Reddy 59, Zaheer five for 37) lost to Warangal 159 for two (Zameer 83 not out, Venu 52).

Noshir Mehta to lead

Noshir Mehta will lead Veterans Cricket Association of Hyderabad on the tour to Sri Lanka organised by the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club of Colombo from August 3, according to a press release.

During the visit, the team will also witness the third Test between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo.

The team: Noshir Mehta (capt), Suresh Rajan, A. Satyendran, Prabhu Prasad, R. Srinivasan, Karthik, Arun Kumar, Prashant, Nagarjuna, Ravi Kiran, K. V. Srinivas, Sandeep Chanda and Govind Rathi.

Meher posts win

Top seed Meher Chinna Reddy defeated B. Mahesh, while J. Sahari, the top seed in the girls’ section, defeated B. Siri to garner two points each respectively in the AP State u-15 chess tournament for boys and girls held at Kaikaluru (Krishna District) on Saturday.

As many as eleven players are leading the pack with two points in the boy section and nine are in joint lead with two points in the girls’ segment.

Boys (second round): Meher Chinna Reddy 2 bt Mahesh 1, Abhilash Reddy 2 bt Mani Chaitanya 1, Anand Reddy 2 bt Naga Sai 1, D. Reddy 2 bt Naga Sampath Kumar 1, V. Varun 2 bt A. Narayana 1.

Ghayaz slams century

A century by Ghayaz (124 n.o.) helped Kadapa to take the crucial first innings lead of 46 runs against Nellore in the two-day ACA South Zone u-22 inter-district tournament at Anantapur on Saturday.

The scores:

Nellore 156 in 43.3 overs (Krishan Reddy 55, Ramakrishna 45, Irfan four for 30) vs. Kadapa 202 for three 46 overs (Ghayaz 124 n.o., Irfan 65).

Chittoor 190 in 64.1 overs (Chinna Babu 45, Kiran Kumar Reddy five for 50) vs. Anantapur 82 for four in 30 overs.

Wash out

The second day’s play between Guntur and Prakasam in the ACA Central Zone u-22 inter-district tournament at Guntur was washed out due to incessant rain on Saturday.

Sumanth hits hundred

Former India under-19 vice-captain B. Sumanth scored 101 and K. Bharat Reddy made an unbeaten half-century as ACA President’s XI managed a nine-run lead over ACA Secretary’s XI at close on the second of the ACA North Zone seniors’ selection match in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

Left-arm spinner Y. Lakshman Kishore picked up three wickets for Secretary’s XI.

ACA Secretary’s XI 279 for five vs. ACA President’s XI 288 for five in 90 overs (B. Sumanth 101, K. Bharath Reddy 54 n.o., S.V. Ramesh 49).
