Traffic police to augment strength of ‘Tigers’

BANGALORE: Bangaloreans, think twice before parking your vehicle in a “no-parking” zone lest your vehicle be towed away by the Bangalore Traffic Police.

To intensify the drive against parking norm violations, the traffic police will deploy, in a month, 30 more “Tigers” (towing vehicles), taking their total number to 60.

Motorists, particularly two-wheeler riders, dread the Tigers as their vehicles are immediately towed away if parked in “no-parking” zones.

There have been instances of vehicles being towed away even if they were parked in places other than “no-parking” zones.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) Praveen Sood, “Parking on roads has always been at the cost of smooth flow of traffic. If roadside parking is banned, we could have converted all the one-ways in the central parts of the city into two-way roads.”

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has just come out with a parking policy and its implementation depends on the Government, even as sufficient parking spaces are yet to be created in the city.

Mr. Sood said the unabated violation of parking norms has largely been affecting traffic on arterial roads.
