dated July 21, 1958: Punjab border incidents

Pakistan Prime Minister Malik Firoze Khan Noon is understood to have addressed a communication to Prime Minister Nehru on the recent border shooting at Amruka on the West Pakistan-Punjab border, renewing Pakistan’s desire to end these disputes and live in amity with India. Reliable Pakistan sources said Mr. Noon has sent a copy of the report submitted by the Deputy Commissioner of Montgomery after an enquiry into the incident. Mr. Noon regretted that it had not been possible for the Deputy Commissioners of Jullunder (India) and Montgomery (Pakistan) to prepare a joint report. These sources added that Mr. Noon hoped that the projected conference of India’s Commonwealth Relations Secretary and Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary would be able to reach a settlement on all border disputes.
