DAVANGERE: The procession by the women’s wing of the Congress party here on Sunday received poor response with few members assembling at the Beeralingeshwara grounds, from where it was to begin. The women’s wing of the Congress had organised the procession in favour of the United Progressive Alliance Government’s decision to sign the nuclear deal. Pushpa Suresh, president of the district unit of the wing and Manjula Hanumanthappa, vice-president, decided to cancel the event as there minimal attendance. MeetingThe women workers did, however, hold a meeting at the venue in support of their party’s decision. Jalaja Naika, former MLC, said the nuclear deal was required to fulfil the power requirements of the country and asked the Opposition parties not to politicise the issue. Ms. Pushpa Suresh said the present power production was not sufficient to meet the country’s needs and wondered how it would prosper if such arrangements were not made. K. Mallappa, D. Basavaraj and Dinesh K. Shetty spoke on the occasion.
