KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting sprung a surprise upstaging strong East Bengal 3-1 in a premier division encounter of the Sahara Calcutta Football League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday. Coached this season by former international Shabbir Ali, Mohammedan Sporting set the tone going into the lead in the first minute of the match. With both its foreign recruits Mike Okoro and Theodore Sunday Wrobeh in good touch, Sporting found the scoring easier. Wrobeh was more prolific first scoring the opener following a corner and then making it 2-1 in the 85th minute. Okoro sealed the issue for Sporting from an injury-time penalty. East Bengal, which has been missing a host of regulars owing to national duty, scored the eaqualiser through Khelemba Singh in the 75th minute but failed to sustain the tempo. The win helped Mohammedan Sporting tally nine points from three wins and tie with the holder Mohun Bagan at the top of the league table. — Principal Correspondent
