It was heartening to watch the recipient of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award and cine artist Rajesh Khanna. He was presented with the award on April 30, 2008. Popularly known as Kaka in the film circles, he had dominated the silver screen in the late seventies and created history by doling out super hits of his era. He will always be remembered as kingof romance. Starting his career with Sippy’s flick ‘Raj’, the actor was treated as god in those days. The songs in his movies are still fresh in the minds of many of us. The team of Rajesh Khanna, Kishore Kumar and R. D. Burman gave the best films with melodious music. No one can forget his memorable, tantalizing and charismatic performance in innumerable films like Aradhana Anand, Namak Haram, Kati Patang, Roti, Amar Prem, Avishkhar, Safar and Avtar to name a few. The super success to his Haathi Mere Saathi created a history. The title ‘superstar’ was first given to this versatile actor only. The stunning performance of both Rajesh and Amitabh in Anand and Namak Haram is still remembered by one and all. S. R. Krishna Berhampur Row over dealI have never witnessed such a double standards in political arena, which are being demonstrated by the Left. The leaders claim the nuclear deal would damage sovereign foreign policy of the country. As an independent country, we should look forward to a relationship, which would pay in long run, but not make ourselves imprisoned in an ideology, which is obsolete in present era. Why does the Left smile when India goes to talk with China, whose credibility as a faithful neighbour has always been in question. The ideology cannot be based on a foreign policy. The people who were at the helm of the affairs were competent enough to envision the greater benefit through strategic alliance. The Left is creating cacophony unnecessarily. Who needs this kind of political parties? Anil Swain Bhubaneswar Playing it safeSeveral MPs of Biju Janata Dal are under tremendous pressure whether to vote for the UPA or vote against. The MPs who are set to lose their candidature in coming elections want to earn as much as they can. There were three MPs who had already started spadework to jump into other political parties as they were not in the good books of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. They know the leadership would try hard to convince them that they are part of the BJD family and should vote against UPA. But after the trust vote, the old situation would again return. These leaders will again disappear. It is time to gain as much one could. People don’t remember hypocrisy and unethical practices in politics. For MPs, it is time to play safe and take advantage from the situation. Ramachandra Pradhan Cuttack
