Centre, State blamed for delay in completing projects

Staff Correspondent

Bijapur: The State and Union governments are responsible for the delay in the completion of irrigation and power projects in the region. The delay can be attributed more to the Centre as it has not allocated more than ten per cent of funds under the Five-Year Plans, said Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha president K.S. Puttannaiah.

Speaking to presspersons before performing puja to the Krishna river at Alamatti, on Saturday, Mr. Puttannaiah said that the Kannambadi Dam was completed decades ago, when technology and science were not very advanced. Now, even with advanced technology projects were not being completed quickly, he said.

Memorandum

Mr. Puttannaiah said that the sangha had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa urging that four per cent of budgetary funds be reserved for power supply and irrigation projects, but Mr. Yeddyurappa had neglected the demand. He had also failed to announce an agriculture policy to protect the interests of farmers. Instead of concentrating on the welfare of farmers and the common man, he had tried to protect his vote bank, Mr. Puttannaiah alleged.
