Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa felicitating Deputy Chairman of the Planning Board D.H. Shankaramurthy and wife Satyavathi, in Bangalore on Sunday. H.P. Manjunath and C.N. Ashwathnarayana, MLAs, and Minister for Housing Krishnaiah Shetty are seen. BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Sunday declared that his Government would take steps to alleviate the sufferings of the people of Bangalore. He was speaking at a felicitation programme for legislators belonging to the Arya Vysya community here. State Planning Board Deputy Chairman D.H. Shankaramurthy, Minister for Housing and Muzrai S.N. Krishnaiah Shetty and MLA for Hunsur H.P. Manjunath were felicitated. The programme was organised by the Vasavi Felicitation Committee. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Government was planning major projects in the city, and they covered housing, traffic, water, electricity, which would improve the lives of the common people. The Chief Minister said: “my team of Ministers and the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board are geared up to provide the best facilities to the people of Bangalore for which budgetary support has been already been made.” The Chief Minister said he was pained to see the poor people in the city slums, deprived of the fruits of development. Some of the programmes of the Government had been designed to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. “At the end of the term of the 13th Assembly even those who are opposing us will learn to appreciate us,” he added. Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “I am not the kind of politician or Chief Minister who takes unilateral decisions. I consult my colleagues, and all decisions that are taken in the interest of the State are taken collectively.” “I will even revolt against the system and take stern action if the pro-poor programmes do not reach the targeted sections”. Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Shankaramurthy urged the Arya-Vysya community not to worry about its small size. It was not the number that mattered, but the quality. He stressed on providing the best of education and training to the youth of the community. Mr. Krishnaiah Shetty and Mr. Manjunath spoke on the occasion. Malleswaram MLA C.N. Ashwathanarayana and president of the Vasavi Felicitation Committee P.N. Govindarajulu were present.
