P.C. Thomas KOCHI: The farmers’ convention being organised in Kottayam on July 26 would have no political agenda, P.C. Thomas, Kerala Congress(J) MP, has said. In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Thomas said he had convened a meeting of a few independent farmers’ organisations and it was in deference to their wishes that he assumed the role of the chairman of the coordination committee. The other office- bearers include Infam national trustee M.C. George; Karshakavedi member Balakrishnan Nair; Rubber Marketing Society president K.P. Elias; RPS president Moideen haji; Karshaka Niyamasahaya Vedi president Soman; and Kuttanad Kadaswasa Samithi president Jomi Mathew. The convention will discuss issues pertaining to the farm loan waiver scheme announced by the Union government. Many eligible farmers who had already paid their dues had been excluded from the scheme. The petitions of the aggrieved farmers would be submitted to the officials concerned.A list of the eligible farmers will be prepared and sent to the President and the Union Finance Minister. Minister Mons Joseph, who hails from Kottayam; Kottayam MP K. Suresh Kurup; V.N.Vasavan, MLA; and district panchayat president Thomas Kunnappally; were special invitees. He also stated that there was no rift in the Kerala Congress party.
