It uses rainwater harvesting technology Request was made to get the specific number BANGALORE: Many have fascination for numbers, be it the telephone number or the vehicle registration number. This seems to be the case with the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation (KSPHC), the State Government undertaking involved in construction of buildings for the police, fire and prison departments. The Police Housing Corporation has gone for a toll-free number 1800-42-57742 that suits the work it is doing. It has been chosen to highlight the corporation’s adoption of environment-friendly technology. “This number is simple to remember and also conveys that our organisation is a green company,” said Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Sri Kumar, who is also the chairman and Managing Director of KSPHC. In many telephones, the number corresponding to the letters GC is 42. The numbers corresponding to the letters KSPHC will be 57742; and 1800 is the standard toll-free number prefix. “Therefore the toll-free number of ‘Green Company’ KSPHC will be 1800-42-57742. We specifically got this number from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited,” he added. The KSPHC has been making use of rainwater harvesting technology in most of its constructions. It has also introduced technologies for harnessing solar and wind energy. The KSPHC has to its credit the Police Bhavan in Gulbarga, which has been acclaimed as the first Indian green building in the government sector. The new building of the Bangalore Police Commissioner is also being built in a similar way People can use the number to lodge a complaint, register a grievance or simply offer a valuable suggestion for improvement of the corporation. This number is in additional to the feature already in use on the KSPHC’s website www.ksphc.in “A brickbat or a bouquet can be offered. People can keep on calling till the person at the other end answers,” Mr. Kumar added.
