Mohan and Sugapathy star for Oxford

Madurai: An unbeaten century by Mohan (101 not out) and a six-wicket haul by medium pacer Sugapathy (six for 21) helped Oxford CC, Usilampatti, post a 169-run victory over Majestic Cups CC in the Canara Bank Madurai District Cricket Association first division B zone league at Madurai on Sunday.

The scores: (Zone B): Oxford CC, Usilampatti 262 for seven in 50 overs (Mohan 101 not out, Selvaraj 44, Parthiban 40) bt Majestic Cups CC 93 in 18.5 overs (Sugapathy six for 21); Crescent CC 158 in 35.4 overs (Ranjeeth 52) lost to Freaks CC 159 for seven in 34 overs.

Zone A: Kapil Devils 122 in 28.5 overs (V. Prabakaran five for 35) lost to Arasaradi CC 123 for four in 23.5 overs (Jeyaprakash 57).

Second division: Babu Academy 158 for eight in 27 overs (Ramesh 40) bt Blooming XI 86 in 18.1 overs (Om Prakash four for 16).

Third division: Sun CC 166 in 25.4 overs bt Jaihind CC 21 in 8.1 overs (Machakalai four for 13, Senthil four for six); TVS Aparajitha 126 in 27.2 overs (Karthik 45) lost to Majestic Kids CC 127 for five in 27 overs (Peer Gani 52 not out); PS Oliva 73 in 20 overs (Sheik Mohamed 40. Balaji four for 26) lost to TVS Inter connect 74 for five in 17.5 overs (Sowmi Narayanan 40).

Hat-trick by Soluvaraj

Soluvaraj’s four for 17, including a hat-trick, helped Ramesh Flowers Cricket Club, Tuticorin defeat Seconds Cricket Club by four wickets and lift the Kayal Trophy in the final of the district-level Twenty-20 cricket tournament at Kayalpatnam on Sunday.

The scores: Seconds CC 176 in 20 overs (Raja 66, Soluvaraj four for 17, including a hat-trick) lost to Ramesh Flowers CC 178 for six in 18.2 overs (James Raj 46, Muthukumar 39).

MSP Solai triumphs

MSP Solai Nadar HSS, Dindigul, won the E.Rm E. Rengasamy memorial Trophy with an all-win record in the semifinal round robin league in the state-level inter-school basketball tournament at Alagarkoil.

SAV HSS, Tuticorin finished runner up, losing only to MSP Solai Nadar HSS. American College HSS finished third with its only over KVS MHSS, Virudhunagar.

The result (League): MSP Solai Nadar HSS 62 (Manikandan 12, Satheesh 16) bt SAV HSS, Tuticorin 57 (Sadam Hussain 22); AC HSS 43 (K. Padma Prakash 26) bt KVS MHSS 26 (Pandy 12); MSP Solai HSS 67 (Manikandan 18) bt KVS MHSS 28 (Pandy 12); SAV HSS 48 (S. Sadam Hussan 16, Visu 14) bt AC HSS 45 (S. Nadar HSS wins

Nadar Higher Secondary School, Rajapalayam, won the boys title in the Mepco Schlenk Engineering College Silver Jubilee Trophy district-level inter-school volleyball tournament at the college ground, Sivakasi.

The results: Boys (final): Nadar HSS, Rajapalayam bt GS Hindu HSS, Srivilliputhur 25-23, 25-19; Semifinals: Nadar HSS bt AVM Marimuthu Nadar HSS, Vilamputh 25-17, 25-12, GS Hindu HSS bt Hindu HSS, Watrap 25-15, 25-19.

Girls (final): Kshatriya Vidyasala Girls HSS, Virudhunagar bt Thiagaraja HSS, Srivilliputhur 25-22, 25-20; Semifinals: Thiyagaraja HSS, Srivilliputhur bt Renuka HSS, W. Pudupatti 25-14, 25-11; KV Girls HSS, Virudhunagar bt Hindu HSS, Watrap 25-8, 25-13.

St. Mary bags title

St. Mary’s HSS won the title in the district-level inter-school football tournament for Kittu memorial Trophy defeating American College HSS by a solitary goal scored by Balakrishnan in the 19th minute at MTN College ground, Madurai.

Earlier, in the semifinals, American College HSS beat Don Bosco HSS 2-0 and St. Mary’s HSS beat TVS HSS 4-2 via tie-breaker, after the teams were locked goalless.
