UGD connections

Officials of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) are executing works on underground drainage system at Singhnagar area along with other parts of the city, for which the residents are thankful to the civic body. But at the same time the officials should give a time limit to house owners to take connections so that there will not be confusion in the process. A house owner can be given three to four months so that they can take the connection at their convenient time. General public should also be informed about these works and all steps should be taken to see that no drainage should be released on to the roads. Proper conditions should be created for officials to lay better roads.

Railway time-table

Railways should have published time tables zone-wise instead of clubbing all four zones in one volume and pricing it at an exorbitant cost of R.30. Formerly, when the time tables were zone wise, it would have been around Rs. 10. Since the time is for one year, it is not late for the railways to publish time tables zone wise, and they should briefly detail important trains in other zones, as before. Would the railways consider this please?

Power cuts

Of late, there have been many power cuts several hours in rural areas and a few hours in urban areas, including Vijayawada and Guntur, which are the major municipal corporations in this region. The officials’ explanation is that there are faults in the feeders, failure of incoming power and so on. The Minister for Power makes a statement that there has been an increase of power consumption resulting in power breakdowns and announced later an official power cut. Nowadays the bureaucrats and technocrats are overreaching politicians as well in making far-fetched statements. The sole aim appears to be that one is thinking of post-retirement political or other plans rather than prestige of the present assignments.

Birth anniversary of Narayana Theertha

Sadguru Nayarana Theertha Trust, Kaza village, Guntur district, celebrated 333rd birth anniversary of Sadguru Narayana Thirtha Yathendra in collaboration with Tirupundurthi Narayana Thirtha Swamigal Trust, Chennai. The celebrations were held in his birthplace at Kaza, a small village equi-distant from Guntur and Vijayawada. Sadguru Yathendra was a saint and a great musician. I suggest that the organisers conduct similar celebrations in Guntur and Vijayawada, as there are many connoisseurs of music in the two cities.

V.V. Ramanaiah,

Vijayawada
