Teachers in films

Many films (mostly Telugu) allegedly portray characters of teaching profession in poor light. Ironically, it is also said that such characters in few cases were enacted by actors who had been teachers/lecturers before joining films. It appears that Central Censor Board should enact a law that the members of the Censor Board give representation to teachers, lecturers and principals. It might also consider having scholars in Indian epics and mythology as members, as films at times portray epics and mythology in poor light.

‘Poor’ middle class

It is observed that government’s ‘sops’ are extended to people of a particular category one after the other since 60 years. Sops like reservations, Rs. 2 a kilo rice, free power, free health care, Indiramma housing and land are some of them. All these are given to white cardholders but nothing is extended those not holding white cards.

Majority of those not holding white cards belong to the middle class and they are the one who pay high taxes, high water tariff, power tariff and all they get in return is nothing. Hope at least these matters are streamlined if not ‘sops’ be given to this section.

SSC memos

SSC results were announced on April 15. The Minister concerned had assured that the memorandum of marks would be despatched to schools in 10 days. However, the original memorandum of marks is still awaited. The junior college authorities are pressing for this. Hence, I request the authorities concerned in the Board to despatch the original memos without further loss of time and oblige.

Withdrawal of support

Former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam expressed his steadfast support for IAEA deal with United States again when Samajwadi Party leaders sought his opinion in order to lend their support to UPA government at a time when Communists withdrew their alliance with the government. Whatever may be the consequences at the Centre, a law should be enacted to the effect that once the government is formed, it should be allowed to continue till completion of full term. In the event of Constitutional failure that dethrones the government in between, the rest of the period should be brought under the President rule to avoid wastage of public money for conducting mid-term or early polls.

Hyderabad as Union territory

In the event of separation of Telangana, consideration may be given for making Greater Hyderabad a Union territory. Greater Hyderabad has about 34 Assembly constituencies and is nearly the size of Goa, and it deserves to be made a Union territory. It can be made the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra.
