TAMBARAM: A man, reported to be around 40 years old and whose identity is yet to be established, was found murdered beside the railway tracks near Tambaram railway station on Sunday morning. Residents of Irumbuliyur noticed the body near the track early in the morning and informed the Peerkankaranai police station. Personnel from the police station said that the case had to be investigated by their colleagues at the overnment Railway Police in Tambaram becasue the spot where the body was found fell within the latter’s jurisdiction. However, GRP personnel differed, stating though they had registered most crime cases, they did not have either the legal sanction or the required strength to conduct murder investigations. Following instructions from higher-ups, a case was registered at the GRP Station in Tambaram and later, transferred to Peerkankaranai. The body was sent to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital (Chromepet GH) for postmortem. Police said the victim had suffered cut injuries on his face and his head was smashed by a stone.
