Residents of West Mambalam find it difficult to go to Egmore, Nanganallur and Adyar/ beyond Thiruvanmiyur owing to a lack of direct bus services. MTC authorities should extend route buses M-18C & 9 or 10 to the K.K. Nagar terminus from T. Nagar to ply via West Mambalam. Route No. PP49 (Vadapalani-VGP Golden Beach), which used to ply through West Mambalam, can be revived. B.N. Vengoba Rao, West Mambalam Frequent power cutsA few State and Central government offices, banks, post office and telephone exchange functioning at Manavalanagar are fully computerised. But, their functioning on several days suffers from frequent power cuts and voltage fluctuation. The TNEB should take steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply to avoid inconvenience to the public. N.B.S. Manian, Manavalanagar Restore bus servicesLack of adequate bus services affects commuters at Nanganallur. Representations were made in vain restoration of MTC services on various routes and for permission to ply share autorickshaws. Autorickshaw drivers are using this situation to fleece the commuters. I request the authorities concerned to resume the MTC services immediately. R. Srividya Raghavan, Nanganallur Encroachments, bad roads I am a resident of Sholinganallur II village, residing at School Road. One can see a lot of encroachments at the entrance to the road. The road leading to the Corporation School is also in bad shape, especially near the entrance. Water-logging has been a problem here from 2000. I request the authorities concerned to look into the issue.Devasanan, Sholinganallur Publish map of acquired landSIPCOT should publish a map of the proposed industrial estate expansion in the Irugattukottai and Vallam areas. Thousands of small investors purchased plots here years ago and are residing in several parts of the country. If the SIPCOT publishes a map of the areas proposed to be taken over with survey numbers, it would be helpful to the land-owners. In areas such as Vadakal, rumours of takeover have been doing the rounds for a couple of years, especially in VGP Vinoth Town. In some villages such as Mambakkam, industrial estates have come up close to the houses. There are several small waterbodies in these areas and the industries should not disturb them. T. V. Sivaraman Choolaimedu Sewage water stagnatingThe Hindu dated July 13 highlighted the difficulties of Velachery residents during the monsoon. I append below the woes of the children as well as senior citizen residing in the colonies adjoining Velachery throughout the year owing to polluted drinking supply by the CMWSSB. “CMWSSB extended drinking water supply to Mahalakshmi Nagar and adjoining colonies Adambakkam (Area 10, Ward 153A, west Velachery, Chennai metro) during 1996 and improved the supply with the provision of ground-level reservoir and pumping. Ever since the sewerage connections were provided in 2000, drinking water started getting polluted. Leak detection tests were carried out in November 2000 after replacing all PVC distribution pipes with cast iron pipes. Drinking water pollution in the I to VI Cross Streets in Mahalakshmi Nagar continues to pose serious health hazards to the residents . Whenever a complaint is made to the CMWSSB, the field staff pump out the stagnating water on V Fifth Cross Street, Mahalakshmi Nagar. Though it has often been stressed that the pollution is a result of blockage and insufficient pumping of sewerage at Velachery, permanent remedial measures are not taken.
