MPs’ delegation from State meets Manmohan Singh

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: A delegation of MPs belonging to the DMK and the Congress from Tamil Nadu met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Sunday evening and sought his intervention to stop the ``indiscriminate firing” on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy in the high seas.

While Union Shipping Minister and DMK Parliamentary Party leader T. R. Baalu led the DMK delegation, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K V Thankgabalu led the delegation of the Congress MPs.

Later, Mr. Baalu told mediapersons that the Prime Minister gave a patient hearing to them and explained the steps taken by the Centre to sort out the issue through the diplomatic channel. The Prime Minister assured the delegation that he would take up the issue with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his Colombo visit for the SAARC summit.
