Blockade hits road traffic in Assam
Sushanta Talukdar
Guwahati: The movement of trucks and other vehicles between Assam and rest of the country along the national highways no 31, 31 C were disrupted on Sunday due to the All-Koch Rajbanshi Students’ Union (AKRSU)-sponsored economic blockade.
The 1,000-hour blockade, to press for the creation of a Kamatapur state, comprising 11 districts of Assam and five districts of North Bengal, began on Sunday.
The AKRSU president, Biswajit Ray, told The Hindu that the blockade was enforced only at Srirampur and Chagolia check gates along the Assam-West Bengal border on the first day and from Monday onwards it would be enforced in all districts.
